PSLSAMP Summer Bridge

The Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (Peach State LSAMP) program hosts its annual "Building Bridges" Summer Institute at UGA each summer. Peach State LSAMP aims to increase the number of underrepresented minority students completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). During the "Building Bridges" Summer Institute, Peach State LSAMP hosts STEM freshmen for a three-week long residential program. The students will participate in professional development, academic enrichment, and social engagement activities designed to facilitate their transition from high school to the university setting. The program schedule includes workshops regarding effective resume writing, lab tours, research presentations, and panels focusing on student services available at UGA.

Our "Building Bridges" students also have the wonderful opportunity to take mock Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English courses so that they can be introduced to the rigor of college-level instruction prior to the start of the academic year. Students also are able to share one-on-one interactions with STEM faculty, staff, and professionals from both UGA and our surrounding community. Each year the students participate in STEM field trips also.
